Collection AW24 – le SIMULACRE et la SIMULATION –

The vision with "Le Simulacre et la Simulation" is to merge these two worlds and create a bridge.

Jean Baudrillard, Simulacra and Simulation, 1981

The name for the collection is based on the work Simulacra and Simulation of Jean Baudrillard, a french philosopher, who explores the eponymous concepts. A simulacrum refers to copies or representations of things that no longer have an original or that have become detached from reality.

A simulation refers to the process of imitating or replicating something, often to the point where the imitation becomes more significant or influential than the original. In the context of Baudrillard's theory, simulation involves creating a reality that is based on representations rather than actual experiences. Together, these concepts explore the complexities of how we perceive reality in a media-saturated society, where the lines between the real and the represented can become increasingly indistinct.

This is precisely where the concept of the collection comes in. The boundaries between reality and dreams become blurred and a symbiosis of two worlds is created that goes far beyond fashion and art.

The chosen artworks can be understood as simulacra, which form the base of the collection and are simulated and represented by the jointly developed looks. It is important for 5JH and ALL IN A BASEMENT not only to focus on fashionable pieces that meet the zeitgeist, but rather to be guided by the question of what the characters of the artworks would wear if they were alive. This results in in the goal of the collection, which is to create a vibe that stimulates, stands out and questions: dream and reality.

Look No. ONE

The first look of the collection is a symbiosis of the artwork Red Rhythmic Dragon, which is a self-portrait of the artist and the painting She loves the Danza.

The 'Nyx' denim jacket is made out of deadstock mid weight grey denim and gives with its beautifully tailored silhouette and strong shoulders a wonderful contrast to the rushed 'Dragon' skirt.

The painting Red Rhytmic Dragon is printed on a super soft peach jersey, which is partly made out of recycled PET bottles. The soft draping and long train of the skirt gives an hourglass silhouette and a great balance to the strong features of the jacket, which emphasize the distinctive character of She loves the Danza.

Look No. TWO

5JHs iconic artwork Red Rhytmic Dragon is also the base for the second look and is printed on a soft fabric which is derived from renewable wood sources in a sustainable closed loop process. The tight and structured silhouette of the coat gives the body an elegant feel - paired with a small round, shell like bag, which is printed with the sketch of La evocación.

Look No. THREE

The 'Isis' longsleeve is made from stretchy shimmering blue fabric with its playfully draped cape gives a joyful yet elegant shape. Paired with the 'Lore' pants and skirt set which gives a whimsicalness to the outfits with its velour and flowy shape. The sketch of La evocación repeats in this look and is printed on super soft and sheer mesh made from recycled PET bottles. The angular shaped 'Pyramid' bag rounds off the outfit.

Look No. FOUR

The fourth look of the collection is based on the artwork THE ANCESTORS. The eponymous turtleneck is made of super soft peach jersey, which softly wraps around the torso and adds volume on the upper body with its soft rushing around the bust and shoulders.

Continuing with the rushing effect on the 'Aether' pants to accentuate the electric sheen from the deadstock fabric used.

Paired with a lined puffer coat inspired of the look of a timeless button up shirt. Using prominent features, a long train and unconventional fabric to make it stand out. For this coat, tent fabric was used paired with padded lining to keep warm in cold weather.

Inspired by the painting La simetría ha muerto the 'Husk' bomber jacket takes up the shady vibes of the artwork and is simultaneously a contrast of colors and proportions:

Made to wear reversible, the jacket is both, classic made with black deadstock fabric as well as vibrant and colorful inside, portraying the artwork She loves the Danza.

To fulfill the look, it is paired with a flowy pair of pants which pleats and beautiful sheen makes it hard to differentiate if it is a pair of pants or a flowy maxi skirt.

Look No. SIX

Printed on soft mesh made from PET bottles, the RENAISSANCE painting is the base for the top of the sixth look and appears almost like a tattoo on the skin.

In combination with the structured yet soft 'Dva' headpiece, which is named after the parable of two birds, and inspired in form by the mesmerizing shell of the artwork, it makes the look appear like a muse of divine femininity.

Look No. SEVEN

Vibrant and playful, the 'Explicatio' suit is inspired by the figure of the same named painting Explicatio. The folded sleeves and trouser legs emphasize and reflect the meaning behind the artwork. The suit stands out with its harmonical blue tones and prominent almost hypnotizing red point on the chest.

To complete the look, it is paired with a big shell-like bag, which gently wraps around the strong and angular shoulders. Made with a black waxed denim to compliment the hues of the suit.

Look No. EIGHT

Bringing the figures in EL ARPA DEVĀ to life with the 'Devā' dress. Inspired by the prominent hips and shoulders of the character portrayed in the painting, the dress has similar features.

Expanding the shoulders with padding and bringing the hips to a new shape with boning copies the appearance of the character. The stunning blue fabric with a sheen, the deep V-Neck and extralong durag ties the whole look together and lends a majestic aura

Also inspired by the artwork EL ARPA DEVĀ the 'Duende' dress is playing with unique features like a big shell softly draping over the chest to the shoulder. Sewn in gloves and a headpiece, which only makes the face appear, as well as accentuating the hips in a unique alienated shape that flows into a soft train the look embodies the complementary to the previous – they are to be understood as the two sides of the same coin. Yin and Yang.
